Coach Mike Chase
2019 record 4-12
The Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) Pirates baseball team will be competing in class D south for the first time. The schedule will feature a mix of quality class C and D squads.
“The 2021 Pirates are optimistic about the upcoming season. We expect to compete for a playoff spot this season as this will be our first season in the class D south division,”Chase said. “Our schedule will be competitive as we will be competing against teams from northern class C and class D divisions with the likes of Dexter, Central, Lee, and Penquis in class C and Schenck, Stearns, PVHS, and Greenville in class D. When playoffs start will be playing teams in class D south.”
With no season in 2020, the Pirates are like many teams and have lack of varsity experience on the roster.
“We are a young team with only four returning Seniors (Connor Chase, Colby Chadwick Matt Robinson, and Isaiah Conary). This group of Seniors have been playing together for many years and look to lead this team as all of them will be key players for us,”Chase said. “Two other key players will be our Juniors Matt Chadbourne and Alex Lyon. They were Freshman the last time we took the field in 2019 and they got a lot of playing time and experience that will carry overto this season. Sophomores Tyrus Cobb, Gabe Soctomah, Dawson Simpson and Freshman Scott Chadbourne, Ben Higgins, Beau Talbot, and Dominic Zeller are all young and talented and went deep into the playoffs in 2019 for the middle school and will get a lot of playing time this season at the high school level. Unlike past years we have a strong pitching staff that can go as far as seven to eight deep which should bode well for us with pitch counts as long as we play well in the field and limit our errors. Offensively it’s still hard to determine since we didn’t have a season in 2020 but with all the hard work we have been putting in we should expect more offense then we produced in 2019.”
Coaches comment:
“We just like all the other programs are very grateful to be back competing and playing baseball again. We have had an almost complete overhaul done to our field that we are very excited to get out and use and very proud for visiting teams to come and play on as well,”Chase said. “We understand that we will have different guidelines and we will adjust and do what we need to do to have a full and safe season. You can expect that the 2021 Pirates will have great sportsmanship and will play hard each and every game.”
The Pirates open the season at Schenck on April 23rd. The home opener will be against Lee on April 26th.
