David Pastrnak scored a first period game winning goal, and Jeremy Swayman stopped all 25 shots he faced as the Boston Bruins made it wins in back to back nights over the New York Islanders with a 3-0 victory Friday night at TD Garden in Boston.
Pastrnak would get that eventual game winner off a nice pass from behind the net by Mike Reilly, tapping it in from the low slot at 19:57 of the opening period. It was was 17th goal of the season for Pastrnak, as Patrice Bergeron also assisted. Newly acquired winger Taylor Hall scored his second goal in as many nights to extend the lead 47 seconds into the second period. Hall had two goals this season with Buffalo, and now has back to back games with a tally. David Krejci set that up with a pass from the edge of the right faceoff circle, that Hall re-directed in from the low slot. Curtis Lazar, who also came over from Buffalo, scored his first Bruins goal as he added an empty netter to finish the scoring at 18:48 of the third. That would make it back to back wins over New York (27-13-4) after a 4-1 win on Thursday. Boston was 0-4-1 against the Islanders this season entering this back to back with them at TD Garden.
Swayman did the rest in the net, picking up his first NHL shutout. He is now off to a 4-1-0 start to his NHL career, with a 1.78 goals against average, and a .938 save percentage. Between Boston and Providence this season, Swayman has a record of 12-2-0. Steven Kampfer also added an assist in the win, as the Bruins improve to 24-12-6. Illya Sorokin made 25 saves in the loss for the Islanders, as they’ve now lost three of their last four games. Boston will host Washington on Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m. The Caps took it to the Bruins in Boston last Sunday 8-1.
