The Maine softball team split an America East doubleheader on Saturday afternoon against Binghamton by taking the first game 6-0, before the Bearcats rebounded for a come from behind 5-3 win in game two at the Bearcats Sports Complex in Vestal, New York.
In the first game Kyleigh O’Donnell pitched a complete game two hit shutout with six strikeouts to help Maine to the win. Jasmine Gray hit a second inning solo homerun for a 1-0 lead. Izzy Nieblas added a two run double in a four run third inning, with Gray and Keely Clark also hitting RBI doubles. Gray and Kaya Enos both had two hits. O’Donnell improved to 7-2 in the circle only allowing two walks as well in the 7.0 inning effort.
The Black Bears took a 3-0 lead in game two on a three run triple from Amanda Nee in the fourth inning. Binghamton got a single run in the bottom half of the fourth, and then would complete the comeback by scoring four more in the fifth. Mikayla Alvarez had the difference maker with a two run single that ended up being the game winner. Clark had two hits for Maine, and Caitlyn Fallon (1-7) took the defeat in the circle allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits in 4.1 innings. Maine is now 8-14 overall, 5-3 in America East. Binghamton goes to 7-7, 3-7 in AE. The teams are scheduled to play two more conference games on Sunday beginning at 11 a.m.
