Central comes from behind to get win over Mattanawcook in baseball season opener

Central overcame a 4-0 deficit early on to get the 7-5 come from behind victory over Mattanawcook in a high school baseball season opener on Wednesday afternoon at Central High School.

The Lynx jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning taking advantage of three walks and a double by Isaac Hainer. The second inning was more of the same with a single by Griffin House followed by a walk and two hit batters. After two innings it was 4-0 Mattanawcook.

Simon Allen started on the mound for Central and would settle in the 3rd inning to shut the Lynx down in order.

Central grabbed two runs in the third inning with a lead off bunt by Ivan Tibbetts that was misplayed, followed by an RBI double from Noah Kepple who also scored on a liner into left by Benjamin Speed cutting the deficit to 4-2 after three innings.

Central then came on strong in the fifth inning with four more, with key hits by Allen and Hunter Weeks. The Red Devils added one more in the 6th on an RBI single by Allen who ended up going 3-4 with a triple and two singles and two RBI. Scott Ferrie came on in relief for Central in the fourth inning and struck out six to get the win.

Mattanawcook pitchers Jackson Sutherland and Hainer combined for 12 strikeouts on the day. Bryce Burns and Malachi Miller also added a hit and an RBI for the Red Devils.
