Husson baseball, softball extend win streaks to 14 games

The Husson University baseball and softball teams kept their North Atlantic Conference records unblemished on Saturday afternoon, both extending their win streaks to 14 straight with doubleheader sweeps. The baseball team defeated UMPI 3-2 and 10-0 in Bangor, while softball came up victorious 3-1 and 6-5 on the road at Thomas College.

In game one at the Winkin Complex, David Leblanc hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning for the game winner. Akira Warren had two hits, and Jake Gregoire (1-0) won in relief on the mound with Ryan Robb picking up his third save. Dalton Gillis had a sacrifice fly and Payton Jones an RBI double for the Owls runs. Husson broke open a 3-0 lead with seven runs in the sixth to complete the sweep in the second game. Brandon Smith had three hits and four RBI including a two-run homerun. Leblanc added four hits. Hunter O’Connor (1-1) picked up the win on the hill allowing no runs on four hits in 5.0 innings. Jones and William Stinson had a pair of hits for UMPI. The Eagles are now 14-4, 14-0 in the North Atlantic Conference, while the Owls drop to 0-9, 0-8.

In game one at Thomas College in Waterville, Kenzie Dore had an RBI double and Morgan Coleman added a pair of RBI singles to lead the Eagles over the Terriers. Coleman had three hits, and Jen Jones (9-0) won in the circle allowing one run on three hits with seven strikeouts in the full 7.0 inning effort. In game two, Thomas built a 5-2 lead with three runs in the fifth inning and one more in the sixth before Husson rallied back in their last at bat. Coleman ended up with the huge hit with two outs and runners on second and third and the score 5-4, knocking a two run single to right field to give the Eagles the lead. Madison Rock began the bottom of the seventh with a double for the Terriers, but Jones came in for relief of Sydney Ames and got the next three batters to end it. Olivia McCarty, Katie Raymond, and Katie Windsor had two hits each for Husson. Ames (10-1) got the pitching win, with Jones picking up her first save. Kasey Champney had two hits and two RBI for Thomas College. The Eagles are now 21-1, 14-0 in the North Atlantic Conference, while the Terriers go to 7-4, 7-2.

Next up the baseball team finishes off a five game series in Bangor against UMPI on Sunday at 11 a.m. Due to impending weather, the softball team will now play two more at Thomas College on Tuesday beginning at 3 p.m.
