In a much anticipated track meet, student/athletes from Old Town high school, Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS), Foxcroft Academy, Caribou high school, and Penquis high school shined on Saturday at Old Town high school.

With the loss of the 2020 season due to Covid-19, Molly Sipple missed her freshman track season. Sipple made up for lost time in her first meet. The PCHS sophomore placed first in the 100m, with a time of 14.13, qualifying her for PVCs, and provisionally for States. She also took first in the 800m, with a time of 2:51.10, and sixth in shot put with a throw of 24-00.75. The Pirates girls squad finished second overall in points behind Old Town. Kendall Kimball took 3rd in javelin with a throw of 74-06, qualifying her for PVCs. In the 4x100m relay,, Sipple, Kimball, Taylor Folsom, and Fanjoy took 2nd, with a time of 59.35.

“The first meet of the year is typically one to shake the rust off, and we prepared this week to treat it as such. When I consider the facts; the loss of the season last year, five of our eight athletes being in their first varsity outdoor meet, many of them competing in events for the first time, being the smallest team at the meet, the very high winds and training with our facilities under construction, what these athletes accomplished today was impressive to say the least,”PCHS coach Thomas Panciera said. “Our small team placed 11 times in various events, with a couple championship meet qualifications.

Madyson Redding from Old Town finished first in the 200m and third in the 100m. Grace Willey another sophomore participating in her first meet came up big. The Coyotes sophomore finished first in 100m hurdles and high jump. Willey finished second to teammate Tiffany Yanush in the long jump. Yanush also won the triple jump. Chelsey Cote (Old Town) won the shot put and discus throw. Click here for full girls results.

PCHS Ty Massie finished 6th in long jump, with a jump of 16-08.25. He also took 2nd in Javelin, with a throw of 114-10. Alex Shedd also from PCHS placed 5th in the 800m, with a time of 3:24.32.
