The Stony Brook Seawolves won their 21st game of the season on Sunday, taking the rubber match of a three game series over Maine 7-0 at Kessock Field in Orono in America East softball action.
Stony Brook (21-9, 7-1 America East) took control early after their first conference loss of the season to Maine on Saturday. The Seawolves plated three first inning runs on a Nicole McCarvill fielders choice RBI, a sacrifice fly by Lindsey Osmer, and an RBI double by Jordyn Nowakowski. Trailing 4-0, the Black Bears had their best chance to get back into the game when they loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth. Stony Brook pitcher Dawn Bodrug ended that threat though by striking out Mariah Pearson, Amanda Nee, and Grace McGouldrick consecutively. McCarvill added a solo homerun for the Seawolves in the fifth inning, and then a solo homer by Nowakowski and an RBI double by Jourdin Hering in the sixth to take two of three games on the weekend.
Jasmine Gray and Keely Clark both had two hits for Maine, who falls to 11-16 and 7-5 in America East. Kyleigh O’Donnell (9-4) took the loss in the circle allowing six earned runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings. Hering and Nowakowski each had three hits for Stony Brook, with McCarvill and Nowakowski both driving in two. Bodrug (12-4) on the mound for the Seawolves allowed no runs on six hits with 13 strikeouts, her second shutout of the series. The Black Bears head back on the road to take on UMBC in a three game conference series beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday.
