Husson baseball sweeps Thomas College

The Husson Eagles baseball team got back to their winning ways on Saturday afternoon, after their first conference loss of the season against Thomas College on Thursday. The Eagles would sweep the Terriers in a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader at the Winkin Complex in Bangor 7-3 and 13-4.

In the first game, Ethan Stoddard hit the game winning solo homerun in the bottom of the fourth inning to give Husson the win. The Eagles had built a 3-0 lead after two, before the Terriers rallied with one in the third and two more in the fourth. Tyler Parke added a fifth inning RBI single, and Jackson Curtis a two-run homer in the sixth to cement the win. Stoddard had two hits to lead the way, while Cam Graham (3-1) got the pitching victory allowing three runs on six hits in 6.0 innings. Ryan Kapelmann had three hits for Thomas College in the loss.

In game two, Husson used two big innings to complete the sweep. The Eagles put up seven runs in the bottom of the first inning for a 7-0 lead. Thomas College responded with four of their own in the second, but the hosts exploded again with six more in the third to put it out of reach. Parke, David Leblanc, Brandon Smith, and Evan Holzworth each had two hits with Curtis knocking in three runs and Chris Ewanik two. Harrison Lendrum (2-0) picked up the win on the mound allowing four runs on seven hits over 4.0 innings. Kyle Gleason had two hits and Kapelmann a pair of RBI for the Terriers. Husson improves to 17-5, 17-1 in the North Atlantic Conference while Thomas dips to 8-7, 7-5 in the NAC.

Husson and Thomas College finish up their five game series on Sunday with two games in Waterville. Those will be the last two conference games of the regular season for the Eagles.
