Sea Dogs take series win with Saturday victory over the Fisher Cats

PORTLAND- The Portland Sea Dogs scored all five of their runs over the first three innings on Saturday afternoon, en route to a 5-1 Double A Northeast League baseball win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats before 1,835 fans at Hadlock Field.

Jeisson Rosario started things with a double off the Maine monster in left field to lead off the bottom of the first inning. He would come across and score on a groundout from Triston Casas to make it 1-0. In the second, Joey Meneses reached on an error, Roldani Baldwin singled, and then Ryan Fitzgerald doubled to score Maneses. Rosario made it 3-0 when he drove in Fitzgerald with one out. The Sea Dogs went up 5-0 in the third when Baldwin hit an RBI double, and Meneses scored on another error by the Fisher Cats. New Hampshire (1-4) got on the board and finished the scoring when Vinny Capra doubled in former University of Maine catcher Chris Bec.

 

Rosario, Baldwin, and Fitzgerald all had two hits a piece for Portland (4-1). Kutter Crawford pitched the first 4.0 innings for the Sea Dogs, not allowing any runs on three hits with five strikeouts. The win went to Denyi Reyes (1-0) as he allowed one run on three hits also with five strikeouts in 4.0 innings. Portland has won four in a row since an opening night 11-2 loss, guaranteeing themselves a series win in the six game set. Chavez Young had two hits for New Hampshire, while the pitching loss went to Maximo Castillo (0-1) who allowed five runs (three earned) on seven hits in 3.0 innings. The teams finish off their series on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
