The Husson Eagles softball team continued their great season on Sunday, sweeping Thomas College 2-0 in a best of three North Atlantic Conference East Divison Championship series with 5-1 and 4-2 wins at O’Keefe Field on the campus of Husson University in Bangor.

In the first game, Madison Rock gave Thomas the early lead with a first inning RBI double but Husson would score the final five runs to earn the win. Kenzie Dore tied the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the first, and Jen Jones gave the Eagles the lead for good with an RBI single in the third. The hosts picked up two unearned runs in the fifth on two errors by the Terriers, and Olivia McCarty also added an RBI single to end the scoring. Jones and Morgan Coleman had two hits a piece for Husson. Jones (11-0) also picked up another win in the circle allowing one run on seven hits with no walks and 13 strikeouts in the complete game 7.0 inning effort. Bailey Dunphy had two hits for Thomas College, and Claudia Migliaccio (5-4) took the pitching loss.

The Eagles would finish off the sweep and extend their win streak to 18 games by holding off the Terriers in game two to claim the title. Thomas would play as the home team, and Husson led 1-0 on an RBI double by Sydney Ames in the third inning. They would pad their lead with three more in the top of the seventh on a Coleman RBI single, and then two more unearned runs on errors by the Terriers. MacKenzie Oberholzer sliced the margin to a pair with a one out two-run single in the last chance for Thomas. They had the tying run at the plate twice, but Jones shut off the rally in relief of Ames by getting Migliaccio to fly out and Kaylee Fonseca to groundout to third base to end it. Dore had two hits to lead Husson, with Ames (12-1) getting the pitching win and Jones picking up her third save. The Terriers were held to four hits, and Kelsey Currier (3-6) pitched the entire 7.0 innings in taking the loss. Thomas ends their season with a final record of 11-8.

Husson moves their record to 25-1, and will head to New York next weekend to play at the West Division winner Cazenovia College in a best of three series for the NAC Championship and a berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Wildcats (19-5) will ride a seven game win streak entering the games with the Eagles. Game times will be announced at the beginning of the week.
