The UMass-Lowell Riverhawks won three out of four games with the Maine Black Bears this weekend in America East baseball action at Mahaney Diamond in Orono. UML swept both ends of a doubleheader on Sunday 1-0 and 10-3.
In the first game (7 innings)- UMass-Lowell got all they needed when Cedric Rose lined a sacrifice fly into right field in the second inning that scored Jimmy Sullivan. Sullivan had two hits for the Riverhawks, while Sean Lawlor had the only two hits for the Black Bears. Both starting pitchers were fantastic in complete game outings, with Alex McKenney (3-5) taking the loss for Maine allowing one run on two hits with one walk and five strikeouts in the 7.0 innings. Collin Duffley (3-6) went 7.0 for the visitors allowing no runs on two hits with no walks and six strikeouts.
In game two (9 innings)- The guests broke open a 0-0 game with five runs in the third inning and cruised to the win. Cam Climo led the way with two hits and four RBI including a three-run homerun. Sullivan, Keagan Calero, Joey Castellanos, and Ryan Proto all added two hits a piece as part of an 11 hit attack. Scout Knotts had three hits to lead the Black Bears. Tyler Nielsen (0-1) took the loss on the mound allowing five runs on three hits in 2.2 innings. Joshua Becker (3-4) picked up the win for UMass-Lowell allowing two runs on four hits in 5.0 innings. Maine drops to 16-17, 11-14 in America East. UML is now 15-24, 14-16 in AE. The Bears are at Hartford for a four game conference series next weekend.
