‘WooSox’ open home park with a comeback win

The Worcester Red Sox opened up Polar Park in Worcester, Massachusetts with a come from behind 8-5 Triple A baseball win over the Syracuse Mets on Tuesday afternoon. It was the first home game for the ‘WooSox’ in franchise history since moving from Pawtucket.

Jarren Duran had a pair of homeruns for Worcester (3-4) in the game to help the comeback win. Syracuse (1-6) took a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning, before Marcus Wilson put the home team on the board with a solo homerun in the bottom of the second. Martin Cervanka restored the Mets two run lead with a line drive solo homer to left in the fifth, before Duran answered to make it 3-3 with his first long ball of the day which was a two run shot in the bottom half. Deivy Grullon gave Syracuse their last lead of the day with a solo homerun in the sixth, before Josh Ockimey put the Red Sox up for good with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the seventh. Duran followed to make it back to back with his second of the day, and the solo homer proved to be the game winner.

Jack Lopez, who was just called up from the Double A Portland Sea Dogs, had two hits as did Duran. Marcus Walden (1-0) picked up the win in relief of starter Raynel Espinal. Brandon Workman, who was just acquired back to the Red Sox orginazation from the Chicago Cubs, got a hold while Kaleb Ort picked up his second save. Jack Hager had three hits in the loss for Syracuse, while Stephen Tarpley (0-2) was tagged in the pitching loss and blown save in relief of their starter Jesus Reyes. The teams continue their six game series on Wednesday night.
