Hartford, CT – After falling in game one of the series last night against the Hartford Yard Goats, the Portland Sea Dogs took game two, 14-3 and improve to 6-2 on the season while the Yard Goats fall to 2-6.
Portland set a season-high five home runs in the game with Triston Casas (2), Roldani Baldwin, Johan Mieses and Joey Meneses all going deep. The Sea Dogs finished the game with season-high 14 runs and 17 hits.
The Sea Dogs started the scoring early in the top of the first inning. Pedro Castellanos hit a hard ground ball to the shortstop who committed a fielding error and moved to third on a single by Triston Casas. Castellanos then scored on a fielder’s choice and Portland led, 1-0. Joey Meneses then drove an RBI double to left field, extending their lead, 2-0.
In the top of the second inning, Roldani Baldwin hit his first home run of the season to left field and the Sea Dogs continued to lead, 3-0. Jeremy Rivera then reached base on a fielder’s choice and came around to score on an RBI single to left field by Castellanos. Portland led 4-0 after two innings.
Triston Casas then blasted his first two home runs in Double-A. First, a solo home run to the second deck in right field at Dunkin’ Donuts Park. Then Casas blasted a three-run homer to right field in the sixth inning and Portland led, 8-1.
In the seventh inning, Johan Mieses and Joey Meneses hit back-to-back home runs and the Sea Dogs finished with five home runs on the night.
Portland starter Josh Winckowski finished the night tossing 6.0 innings allowing one run on two hits while walking one and striking out four. He has only allowed one run in his 9.1 innings so far in 2021.
Tw of the three runs by the Yard Goats were solo home runs by Casey Golden and Taylor Snyder.
The Sea Dogs and Yard Goats meet again tonight at 7:05pm. Portland will send RHP Thad Ward (0-0, 6.75 ERA) and Hartford is TBD.
