Maine slugs past Hartford, wins three of four on the weekend

The Maine baseball team used a five run fourth inning and then added seven more over the final three innings on Sunday afternoon, taking the finale of a four game series over the Hartford Hawks 16-6 at Fiondella Field in West Hartford, Connecticut. The Black Bears took three of the four America East games on the weekend.

Jake Marquez, Ryan Turrene, Sean Lawlor, and Scout Knotts all hit homeruns for the Black Bears part of a 16 hit attack. Knotts had two hits and four RBI, Joe Bramanti had three hits, while Lawlor, Turrene, Connor Goodman, and Jayson Gonzalez all had two hits a piece. Turrene, Jake Marquez, and Gonzalez also each scored three runs. Tyler Nielsen started and got a no decision on the mound allowing four runs on five hits over 3.0 innings. Jacob Small (2-0) picked up the win in relief allowing no runs on one hit in 3.2 innings. John Thrasher and Derek Tenney had two RBI each for Hartford, who drops to 16-18 (all in America East).

Maine improves their record to 19-18, 14-15 in AE play and return home for the regular season finale with four games with Albany in a doubleheader on Friday and Saturday afternoon. The Black Bears are currently sitting in second place in the America East standings in Division A based off win percentage. The top two teams in each Division (A&B) qualify for the conference playoffs.
