CORINTH— When facing pitchers like Kaelyn Parks and Ana Lang, you need to take advantage of every opportunity. Central did that against Lang, scoring a run in the sixth inning and the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh on a Lexi Whitty single as the Red Devils got by Searsport 3-2 on Monday afternoon at Central High School.

Central took a quick lead with a run in the bottom of the first as Parks singled, stole second, advanced to third on an error, and scored on an infield single from Izzy Allen. Searsport responded with two runs in the third inning despite no hits during the inning. The Vikings took advantage of two walks, one error, and a passed ball.

Parks and Lang were the story throughout the contest, especially in the middle innings. Lang struck out the side in the second, third, and fourth innings. Parks retired 10 of the final 11 batters she faced, including the final seven. Parks finished with 15 strikeouts, allowing only two unearned runs on three walks. Lang allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits. She didn’t issue any walks and struck out 16.

The Red Devils scored one in the sixth inning when Whitty started things with a single and came around to score on a double from Bayley Casavant. Parks retired the side on eight pitches in the top of the seventh inning. That set up the dramatics in the bottom half of the inning. Another Parks started things off. Kaelyn’s younger sister Kiera Parks got a single. Parks advanced to third base when a Britni Grant bunt caused havoc for the defense. With two outs, Whitty’s hit went down the first base line and the younger Parks came home to score the winning run.

Whitty and Kaelyn Parks had two hits each for the Red Devils. Allen, Gabby Poulin, Casavant, and Kiera Parks had one hit each. Central (7-2) will play at PCHS on Thursday at 5 PM. Click here for postgame interviews

Lang and Sami Perkins had the hits for the Vikings. Searsport (4-4) will host Stearns on Wednesday afternoon.
