Portland, Maine- Denyi Reyes and four Portland relievers shutout the Hartford Yard Goats (7-17) in a 5-0 Sea Dogs (15-9) win Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field. With the victory, the Sea Dogs went 4-2 against the Yard Goats in the series and improved to 9-3 at Hadlock Field this season.
Denyi Reyes (2-0) making his first start of the season tossed five shutout innings holding the Yard Goats to four hits. The 24-year-old walked one and struck out two. Dominic LoBrutto and Jake Thompson each tossed an inning of hitless ball. Rio Gomez surrendered one hit in the eighth inning and recorded two strikeouts, while Zack Kelly escaped a first and third situation with one out in the ninth to preserve the shutout for the Sea Dogs.
Joey Meneses reached on a two-out error by Hartford second baseman Matt McLaughlin and scored on Johan Mieses’ double to right field as Portland took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Meneses led off the fourth inning with a single. An error by third baseman Elehuris Montero and a hit batsman by Frank Duncan loaded the bases for Ryan Fitzgerald, who walked forcing home Meneses for the Sea Dogs’ second run of the game. Mieses scooted home when Jhonny Pereda grounded into a double play extending to a 3-0 lead. Ronaldo Hernandez had an RBI single in the seventh inning scoring Grant Williams to make it 4-0. Portland tacked on another run in the eighth inning when Grant Williams walked and scored when Pedro Castellanos reached on an error by Hartford right-fielder Manny Melendez. It was the fourth error of the day for the Yard Goats.
Duncan (1-2) suffered the loss for Hartford, allowing three runs on five hits in 5.0 innings.
The team has Monday off before starting a six-game road trip to Harrisburg, PA to play the Harrisburg Senators.The Sea Dogs return to Hadlock Field for a six-game series with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats June 8th-13th.
