Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 338 past athlete of the week winners.
This week we had four Rowells Garage female athlete of the week nominations. Avery Herrick helped the Dexter Tigers softball team finish the regular season with two wins. Herrick struck out 29 in 14 innings to lead the Tigers to wins over Central and Foxcroft. It is the fifth athlete of the week honor and second in a row for Herrick.
Female athlete of the week- May 31st-June 6th
- Avery Herrick- Dexter- struck out 17, allowing seven hits and two runs and went 1-2 and reached base twice in 4-2 win over Central. Allowed one unearned run and four hits, striking out 12 and had one hit and one run scored in 4-1 win over Foxcroft.
Runner up
- Hannah Coolen – Mount View – softball- Went 4 for 4 with 1 homer, a double, and a single, and reached on an error with three RBI, and also had five plays without a mistake at shortstop in a 16-4 win over Belfast.
Other nominations
- Jaycie Christopher- Skowhegan- softball- had three hits and was only a homer shy of the cycle in 20-2 win over Brewer.
- Ana Lang- Searsport – softball-had 14 strikeouts in the circle and three hits, including a triple in 6-1 win over Orono.
