The University of Maine women’s basketball team announced their non-conference schedule of games on Wednesday morning.
The season opener for the Black Bears will be on November 9 with a road trip to Nebraska to battle the Cornhuskers for only the second ever meeting between the schools. Maine opens their home portion of their 2021-22 season when they welcome in Providence College from the Big East. The non-conference slate will also include a home contest being played at the Augusta Civic Center against Rhode Island on December 12. It was also announced on Wednesday that University of Maine men’s ice hockey head coach Ben Barr has named his assistant for his first season behind the bench in Orono.
Jason Fortier, who most recently was the head coach of the Odessa Jackalopes in the North American Hockey League, will now venture to UMaine to help Barr. Fortier has 12 years of junior hockey coaching experience, and has also coached in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) where he was named the coach of the year in the 2019-20 season.
