July 30, 2021

Boston Bruins center David Krejci announced on Twitter on Friday that after playing all 15 seasons in Beantown, he has decided to end his NHL career and head back to his native Czech Republic to continue playing hockey.

Krejci, 35, was selected in the second round with the 33rd pick (63rd overall) by Boston in 2004. He helped the B’s win a Stanley Cup over Vancouver in 2011, and led the league in playoff points in 2011 and 2013. For his NHL career he has played in 962 games, with 215 goals and 515 assists for 730 points. His best season was in 2008-2009 when he had 22 goals and 51 assists (73 points).

Krejci said in the statement, “Since the end of the season, as I have thought about my future, it has become clear that I need to make a difficult decision for my family and I. At this point in my career and life I need to return to the Czech Republic and play in front of my family who sacrificed so much to help me achieve my NHL dreams. I want to play in front of my parents, brother and friends. I want my children to live where I grew up, spend time with many Czech family members who love them, and create lifelong memories.”
