The Portland Sea Dogs got a game winning homerun by Roldani Baldwin, and 5.0 strong innings on the mound by Victor Santos to take back first place in the Double A Northeast League with a 4-1 win over the Somerset Patriots (NY Yankees) at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, New Jersey Friday night. Portland has taken three of the first four in the six game series to take a 1/2 game lead over Somerset.
Triston Casas scored on a fielding error in the top of the first inning and then Baldwin launched a solo homerun to start the second for a 2-0 advantage, and that is all Portland would need. Tanner Nishioka padded the lead with an RBI single in the fourth. Dermis Garcia accounted for the only run for Somerset (52-35), with a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth. Hudson Potts finished off the scoring on the night with an RBI double for the Sea Dogs in the eighth.
Santos (3-2) allowed just one run on three hits with one walk and three strikeouts to pick up the pitching win. Jose Disla pitched the ninth and got his second save, as Portland improves to 52-34. Jeisson Rosario had two hits. Luis Medina (3-2) was charged with the loss for Somerset allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits in 5.0 innings. The series continues Saturday at 5:05 p.m. with the scheduled starting pitchers being Chris Murphy (1-0, 3.60 ERA) for the Sea Dogs, against Jhony Brito (1-1, 3.00) for the Patriots.
