Central High School 2021 girls soccer preview

August 22, 2021
Team  Central girls soccer
Coach  Rick Speed
2020 record  5-5
Expectations – “We should be a very competitive team this year. We have a solid defense and some good scorers,”Speed said. “I think we will be in every game because we have a good mix of offense and defense and a deep bench.”
Strength  “We return eight starters from last year and seven other players that saw significant playing time,”Speed said. “We will be led by Rylee Speed, Cassidy Hanson, MacKenzie Rushlow, and Grace Campbell up front and defenders Abbey Young, Britni Grant and goalie Lexi Gibson.”
Weakness  Speed said, “I think our biggest problem will be if we can stay healthy.”

The 2020 season was a shortened one without any postseason. Speed believes the Red Devils can turn that into a positive.

“The 2020 season was helpful for us in one aspect because there were no playoffs we concentrated on player development,”Speed said. “We had a roster of 22 players that saw them getting alot of playing time and I feel that has helped us this year.”
The Red Devils will open the regular season on September 3rd at Dexter. They will follow that up with a game at Bangor Christian before the home opener on September 13th against Bucksport.
