The Reading Fightin’ Phillies wrapped up a series win in a six game set with the Portland Sea Dogs on Friday night with an 8-3 victory in game four at Hadlock Field. Portland has now lost six games in a row.
The teams swapped runs in the first inning when Bryson Stott hit a solo homerun for Reading, and Ronaldo Hernandez doubled in a run for Portland. The Fightin’ Phillies took the lead for good in the third on a wild pitch by Sea Dogs starter Denyi Reyes, and a two-run double by Madison Stokes that made it 4-1. Danny Santana, on a rehab assignment, hit a solo homer and Roldani Baldwin singled in a run for the other scoring on the night for Portland (55-42).
Hernandez, Santana, and Baldwin each had two hits each and Reyes (3-2) allowed six runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings in suffering the loss on the mound. Stott had three hits to lead Reading, while Stokes and Matt Kroon had two a piece. Hans Crouse (1-2) picked up the pitching win allowing two runs on three hits in 5.0 innings. The Fightin’ Phillies improve to 40-60. Portland will look to end their losing streak and win the final two games of the series on Saturday and Sunday, before a road trip to New Hampshire to battle the Fisher Cats. The Sea Dogs are currently 2.0 games behind the first place Somerset Patriots in the Double A Northeast League.
