- School/Sport – Central High School Boys Soccer
- Coach – Paul Speed
- 2020 Record – 6-3-1
Expectations – “We expect to be competitive in every game and play as a team and not worry about who scores goals. We want to be strong defensively and limit goals allowed as our first priority. We are working in a lot of freshmen with a balanced senior and junior group with a lot of experience. Our goal is to make the Class C North playoffs and then see if we can surprise some teams in the playoffs.” Speed said
Strengths – “Returning players have a lot of game experience and will hopefully be leaders for the younger players, overall team has a lot of athleticism, will play hard for 80 minutes.” Speed said
Weaknesses – “Not a lot of experience at goalie position but we have several options to choose from game to game,”Speed said. “Will need to replace nine seniors (7 starters) from 2020, will have quite a few new starters – will take time for players to gel as a team and learn their strengths and weaknesses.”
Despite the 2020 season being limited, the Red Devils made the most of it by winning six games.
“Overall the 2020 season didn’t have a major effect on 2021 for the returning players other than had various rule changes to adjust to for last season and was a shortened season with no playoffs,”Speed said. “Incoming freshmen didn’t have a season so they haven’t had much playing time for almost two years. Most freshmen participated in the summer soccer season so they are catching up quickly with the skills and level of play at the high school level.”
Central opens the season on September 9th at Bangor Christian. They follow that up with their home opener on September 10th against Lee Academy.
