Penquis Boys Soccer preview
Coach: Jason Mills
2020 record: 5-5 3rd place finish in the COVID Pod
The Patriots are looking to build off their successful 2020 season.
“(We) Return eight starters from last year’s team, hoping to build off last year’s work and what was done this summer to have a good season and get into the MPA tournament in Class C North.” Mills said
Penquis will hope their senior leadership can help them in a competitive class C.
“Have good experience up front with Alvin Robshaw and Corbin Cyr both being four year starters. Grady Atkinson is a three year starter in goal,”Mills said. “Defensively LJ Shaw, Nate Lovejoy, and Chris Gilbert all started back there last year.”
Mills will put three new players at the midfield position. He will hope they can learn quickly.
“Area of concern is our midfield and being able to control the game from that position,”Mills said. “We will have three new starters in that position and that will be the key for us in getting the ball to our forwards and taking pressure off our fullbacks.”
The Penquis boys soccer program will be taking the positives from the 2020 campaign and look to build on those in 2021.
“The 2020 season was very beneficial for our program in that we were able to have a season and play 8 regular season games and have 2 play-off games in our pod,”Mills said. “This allowed us to gain valuable experience and help us get ready for this season. Our pod was very competitive with a lot of close games which helped us grow as a team last year. We are looking forward to the upcoming season and getting back to playing some schools we did not get to play last year.”
Penquis will open the season at home against Greenville on September 9th.
