Quarterback Nic Visser found wide receiver Tyler Walls for an 18 yard touchdown with 14 seconds left on Saturday afternoon, as the Husson Eagles got past the Plymouth State Panthers 10-7 in a non-conference football matchup in Plymouth, New Hampshire.
Husson (1-1) dominated the total yards in the game 441-182, but missed several good scoring opportunities. The Eagles first offensive possession they would drive from their own four yard line to the Panthers 11, only to come up short on a fourth down and seven. The only scoring of the first half was a 22 yard Husson field goal from Aaron Paradis. The guests had a chance to add on near the end of the second quarter, but Visser was intercepted at the PSU seven yard line with 27 seconds left. The hosts took the lead with 8:10 left in the game on a three yard run by Manny Sanchez. The Eagles made a defensive stand late in the fourth and got the ball back with 1:58 remaining. Visser to Halls completions of 16 and 14 yards and a Panthers penalty also included set up the game winner, where Visser found Halls on a great throw and catch in the right corner of the endzone.
Visser finished 33-51 passing for 335 yards, with one touchdown and three interceptions. He also added eight runs for 37 yards. Halls was the offensive star with 14 catches for 162 yards and the game winning reception. Tucker Buzzell had nine total tackles to lead the defense. Brett Lavanchy went 7-15 passing in the loss for 0-2 Plymouth State, for 72 yards and was sacked twice. Quinn Girard had 13 total tackles for the Panthers. Husson returns home on Friday to host Dean College at the Winkin Complex. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
