Maine Field Hockey scores two non-conference wins

The University of Maine Field Hockey team collected a pair of non-conference wins on Friday and Sunday afternoon by taking down Merrimack College and Northeastern at the Maine Field Hockey Complex in Orono.

On Friday, Maine got two goals from Chloe Walton and outscored Merrimack 3-0 in the second half to pick up a 5-1 victory. Walton and Hana Davis had the first half goals, before the Bears padded the lead with markers from Tereza Holubcova, Brooke Sulinski, and a second one from Walton late in the contest. Walton also added an assist, while Madisyn Hartley had three helpers. Julie Wester scored the lone goal for the Warriors. Mia Borley had three saves in net for Maine to get the win, while Mallory Drayer played the final six minutes and didn’t face any shots on goal. Brooke Bolduc made 13 saves on 18 shots in the defeat for Merrimack, who fell to 0-6.

On Sunday, Sulinski scored both Maine goals with both assists coming from Sydney Meader just 1:21 apart in the third quarter in a 2-0 win over Northeastern. Borley made two saves on the only two Huskies shots on the day to pick up the shutout in goal. Erin Savage and Julia Gluyas combined to stop five of seven shots for NU (1-6).

Maine is now 3-5 on the season and will host nationally ranked Monmouth and Stanford this Friday and Sunday afternoon to open up America East Conference play. The Stanford Cardinal are the reigning America East Champions.
