The Portland Sea Dogs just missed reaching the Double A Northeast League Championship series, falling on Sunday in the season finale in Connecticut 5-2 to the Hartford Yard Goats.

Portland finished 67-47, in second place in the Eastern Division of the Northeast League. Two teams from the West, the Akron RubberDucks and Bowie Baysox, will now meet for the title in a best of five series beginning on Tuesday night. The playoffs are decided on win percentage, regardless of division. The Sea Dogs finished up with a win percentage of .588, while Akron (Cleveland Indians) and Bowie (Baltimore Orioles) were at .613 and .608. The other team in Portlands division, the first place Somerset Patriots (NY Yankees), just missed out as well with a .605 final win percentage.

Portland first baseman Triston Casas will now finish his season at the Triple A level with the Worcester WooSox. Casas batted .284 with 13 homeruns and 52 RBI in 77 games this summer with the Dogs. Worcester has 10 regular season games remaining.
