Penobscot Valley had 4 different girls tally their first goal of the season en route to a 5-0 victory over host Bangor Christian in girls soccer action on Tuesday.
Eighth grader Lauryn Smart got the scoring started 22 minutes in, as she converted a Holly Loring cross into the upper part of the net. A few minutes later, defensive player Mia Neal chipped a straightaway shot from around 40 yards that went over the goalkeepers head and into the goal. Loring got another assist, this time from a corner kick, as Ellie Austin finished off her cross to give the Howlers a 3-0 halftime lead.
Early in the second half, goalkeeper Emilee Ireland made a diving save on a well struck ball by Bangor Christian’s Grace Lewis to maintain their 3-goal lead. Loring scored her first goal of the season on the other end, unassisted. Freshman Allie LeBlanc, typically a defender, scored on an Olivia Cote assist to round out the scoring.
PVHS’ Ireland finished with five saves on five shots, as the Howlers improved to 5-0. They host undefeated Woodland at Homecoming on Saturday. Bangor Christian drops to 0-4, and travels to Schenck on Thursday. Goalie Hope Nesbitt, who played excellent in net, stopped 22 of 35 shots.
