Poppy Lambert scored two fourth quarter goals just over five minutes apart on Friday afternoon, leading the Maine Black Bears Field Hockey team to a 2-1 America East win over the Albany Great Danes on Alumni Turf in Albany, New York.
Albany (4-6, 1-1 America East) had taken a 1-0 lead on a goal by Alison Smisdom 3:48 into the opening quarter, and held visiting Maine off the scoreboard for a majority of the contest. Lambert would tie it off a Brittany Smith corner and a Madisyn Hartley assist 7:08 into the fourth quarter. Lambert would net the game winner off the same situation with 2:34 to play, a Smith corner and a Hartley assist as the Black Bears won their fifth straight game. Lambert now has six goals on the season, and Hartley registered her fifth and sixth assist.
Shots on goal ended up even on the day (4-4), as did corner opportunities (6-6). Mia Borley made three saves in goal in the win, while Lara Behn made two in the loss. Maine is now 6-5 and 3-0 in conference play, and will dip back into non-conference action when they visit Boston University on Sunday at 4 p.m.
