Poppy Lambert netted a game winning goal with 7:48 to play Sunday afternoon, as the Maine Black Bears got two fourth quarter tallies to comeback and defeat Boston University 3-2 in non-conference college field hockey action at New Balance Field in Boston, Massachusetts.
After a scoreless first half, Madisyn Hartley scored her first goal of the season at 5:26 of the third quarter off an assist from Hannah Abbott to make it 1-0 Maine. Boston University (2-9) tied it just 40 seconds later off a marker from Rachel Borzymowski. The Terriers took their only lead at 9:26 of the third after Black Bears goalie Mia Borley kicked out two saves, as Thalia Steenseens buried the rebound to make it 2-1. Hana Davis tied it back up at 2:34 of the fourth quarter, before Lambert off a corner and an assist from Brittany Smith got the game winner. It was the seventh goal of the year for Lambert.
Borley made five saves in net in the victory, as Maine improves to 7-5 with their sixth straight win. The Terriers have now lost eight games in a row, as they got eight saves from Caroline Kelly. The Black Bears also had a 13-5 in penalty corner opportunities. Maine takes their 3-0 America East record into a conference matchup in Orono against the University of California on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m.
