October 20, 2021

Cam Atkinson scored two goals including the game winner on Wednesday night, and Martin Jones made 37 saves as the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Boston Bruins 6-3 at the Wells Fargo Center.

Philadelphia got the scoring started when Atkinson scored his first of the night at 8:08 of the first period. Karson Kuhlman tied it for Boston after a shot by Trent Frederic from the high slot deflected off a Flyers skate right to Kuhlman who put it in stick side to the right of Jones at 16:48. Joel Farabee put the home team up after one period though when he scored on the powerplay with 8.9 seconds left. They extended it to 3-1 when Scott Laughton tallied just 1:58 into the second. The Bruins would tie things up when Taylor Hall scored on a breakaway at 8:38, and Brad Marchand scooped home a rebound at 19:00. Atkinson had the difference maker finishing off a 2 on 1 breakout after a Boston turnover, one handing a saucer pass from Farabee past Jeremy Swayman down the slot at 58 seconds of the third. Travis Konecny scored an insurance marker at 11:17, and Sean Couturier added another on the powerplay at 19:01.

Swayman made 19 saves in the loss, as Boston falls to 1-1-0 in the early season. Charlie McAvoy had two assists, while Frederic, David Pastrnak, and Tomas Nosek each had one each. Atkinson (2 goals), Couturier (1 G, 1 A), Farabee (1 G, 1 A), Derick Brassard (2 A), and Keith Yandle (2 A) all had two points each in the win for 2-0-1 Philadelphia. The Bruins are in Buffalo to visit the Sabres on Friday night.
