Nic Visser tossed four touchdown passes and Garrett Poussard ran for two more Saturday afternoon, as the Husson Eagles outscored the University of New England 27-7 in the second half and rolled to a 41-14 Commonwealth Coast Conference football win at Blue Storm Stadium in Biddeford in what was tabbed as the first annual Lobster Trap game.
Poussard put Husson (5-2, 2-1 CCC) ahead with a four yard touchdown run in the first quarter, before fumbling a short time later that was scooped up by Ryan Turner who returned it 26 yards to tie it for UNE. The Eagles took a 14-7 halftime advantage on the strength of a 13 yard Visser TD pass to Tyler Halls in the second quarter. Poussard scored his second of the day on a one yard run in the third quarter, and Aidan Hogan caught a seven yard scoring pass from Visser to extend the lead to 28-7. Parker Belsky caught a 10 yard TD from Connor Sirois about halfway through the fourth for the Nor’Easters, but it was too little too late. Wenston Dinizio three yard TD reception about a minute later, and another three yarder from Hogan with three minutes left for Husson capped off the scoring.
Visser went 25-39 passing for 350 yards with one interception to go along with his four touchdown passes. He also added five rushes for 38 yards and was the leading rusher for the Eagles. Halls had seven receptions for 191 yards and a touchdown, while Hogan caught eight for 65 and two scores. Derek Barden and Kaleb Caron had six tackles each for the defense, with Barden adding a sack. Sirois was 11-23 for 123 yards with a touchdown in the loss for the University of New England. Mikey Brennan had five receptions for 61 yards, and Keegan Stanton-Meas had nine tackles for the Nor’Easters defense. UNE was held to just 44 yards rushing on the day, and see their record drop to 3-3, 1-2 in the conference. Husson will visit Nichols College next Saturday in another CCC clash with kickoff scheduled for 12 p.m.
