Celtics, Bruins roll to Thursday night wins

The Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins were both in action on Thursday night, with the Celtics on the road in the second night of a back to back against the Miami Heat while the Bruins hosted the Detroit Red Wings at TD Garden.

At FTX Arena in Miami, the Celtics outscored the Heat 33-9 in the second quarter to take an 18 point halftime lead en route to a 95-78 win.

Miami (6-2) did cut into the deficit to get within eight with 2:30 left in the third quarter, but Boston ended the period on a 11-1 run to push it back to 18. The Celtics (4-5) would lead by as many as 26 in the fourth quarter in an impressive road win over the team sitting at the top of the Eastern Conference standings. Dennis Schroder led the way with 26 points, while Romeo Langford was big off the bench with 25. Aaron Nesmith added 15 points, Jaylen Brown had 12, while Jayson Tatum and Al Horford both chipped in 10 points a piece. Boston heads to Dallas to take on the Mavericks on Saturday night.

 

In Boston, Patrice Bergeron scored four times as the Bruins defeated the Detroit Red Wings 5-1.

Bergeron scored the first three goals of the night all on the powerplay at 11:03 of the first period, and then at 10:52 and 18:45 of the second. Mike Reilly added a shorthanded goal in the third period for Boston (5-3-0), and Bergeron finished off his big night with another tally at 15:52 of the third. Jeremy Swayman made 14 saves in net as the Bruins outshot the Wings 37-15. Thomas Greiss made 32 saves for Detroit (4-5-2). Boston is in Toronto to play the Maple Leafs Saturday night.
