The Husson University Eagles got off to a quick start and built a 17-0 halftime lead Saturday afternoon, en route to a 24-10 Commonwealth Coast Conference football win over the Salve Regina University Seahawks on Senior Day at the Winkin Complex in Bangor.
Husson (7-2, 4-1 CCC) took the opening kickoff and went 72 yards in 14 plays culminating in a five yard touchdown pass from Nic Visser to Aidan Hogan. An interception by the Eagles Tucker Buzzell on the first possession by Salve Regina was returned 23 yards inside the Seahawks 10 yard line, setting up a seven yard scoring run from Visser for a quick 14-0 lead. Aaron Paradis added a 32 yard field goal late in the second quarter for a 17 point advantage at the break.
Salve Regina would get on the board just over halfway through the third quarter, as Max Devito caught a 54 yard touchdown pass from Jack Maguire. The Seahawks sliced it to just a seven point deficit when Max Ward hit a 20 yard field goal with 10:11 left to play in the game. Husson was able to put it away with a long drive taking nearly eight minutes off the clock, with Visser finding Christian Walker wide open on a playaction pass for an eight yard TD with just 2:36 left to end the scoring.
Visser finished 25-35 passing for 244 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Garrett Poussard rushed 26 times for 106 yards to lead the rushing attack. Tyler Halls had eight receptions for 82 yards, Jon Bell had six for 72 yards, and Hogan caught seven for 61 yards and a touchdown. Sean Savage had eight tackles, Frank Curran had six with one sack, and Buzzell also added six with an interception. Maguire was 16-29 passing for 223 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the loss for Salve Regina. Devito had four catches for 99 yards and a touchdown, while Zachary Tucker had 10 tackles and an interception. The Seahawks, who were in first place in the CCC standings, end their regular season at 8-2 and 4-2 in the conference. Husson plays their regular season finale at Western New England next Saturday at 1 p.m.
