After a thrilling comeback win in overtime for their first victory on Friday night, the Merrimack College Warriors shut down the Maine Black Bears Saturday evening 2-0 to split the weekend series in men’s Hockey East play at Alfond Arena in Orono.
Ben Brar provided the only goal needed, as he tallied just 18 seconds after a Warriors powerplay expired at 10:01 of the first period. The struggling powerplay unit for Maine, after going 2-3 in the win Friday night, went 0-3 in the loss. Christian Felton added an insurance marker at 15:49 of the second, as Merrimack improved to 5-7-0 and 3-6-0 in Hockey East play.
Zachary Borgiel had 18 saves in net in the win. Liam Walsh, Max Newton, and Filip Forsmark each had an assist. Matthew Thiessen had 26 saves in goal in the loss for Maine, who sees their record drop to 1-8-1 and 1-5-0 in the conference. The Black Bears play at Boston College next Thursday and Friday night.
