Jack McBain netted a hat trick Thursday night, as the #19 Boston College Eagles skated past the Maine Black Bears 6-2 at Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts in men’s Hockey East play.
Boston College (7-5-1, 5-3-0 Hockey East) struck quickly as Casey Carreau scored 1:47 into the first period, and McBain tallied his first of the night just 52 seconds later to make it 2-0 Eagles. McBain scored the eventual game winner at 10:25 ending the night for Maine goalie Matt Thiessen, before the guests cut it to 3-1 when Grant Hebert had a goal on an assist from David Breazeale at 13:43. Marc McLaughlin pushed the lead back to three with a powerplay marker at 7:16 of the second. Donovan Villeneuve-Houle scored the final goal of the night for the Black Bears at 17:16 that made it 4-2, before McBain scored his third goal of the game for the hat trick at 19:28. The Eagles Mike Posma finished the scoring at 12:26 of the third period.
Thiessen allowed three goals on four shots and played just 10:25 of period one in the loss. Victor Ostman made 18 saves in relief. Hebert had one goal and one assist, as Maine drops to 1-9-1 and 1-6-0 in Hockey East play. McBains three goals and three assists from Brandon Kruse led Boston College to victory. Postma had a goal and an assist, while Jack St. Ivany and Colby Ambrasio had two assists each. Eric Dop made 23 saves in net. The teams finish off the two game series on Friday night at 7 p.m.
