Diane Rollins has had a lot of success as a coach. Rollins will be bringing that experience to Guilford as the new head girls basketball coach of the Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) Pirates.
Rollins coached the Central girls basketball team for 16 years, her last season for the Red Devils was the 2016/2017 season. Rollins teams won at least 12 games in 12 of those 16 seasons, and at least 15 games in five seasons. Central won the state championship in the 2011/2012 season. Central field hockey won two state championships (2005 and 2006) with Rollins as the coach.
The Pirates have a strong returning group and a good mix of guards and forwards. Elizabeth Kendall was the leading scorer for PCHS the last two years. Joining Kendall will be Sydney Hutchins, Abbey Ricker, Lauren Robinson, Brylee Ricker, Martina Hill, Kendall Kimball, Khloe Kimball, and Hailee Harford.
“I feel very lucky to have a gifted group of young ladies to work with. They are hard working and gifted in their basketball ability. I have high expectations for this group, many have played together since they were very young. The strength of the team will be senior leadership and depth,”Rollins said. “The challenge for them will be getting used to a new coach with a new system, but they are adapting very well. I am very excited to get back at it with a great group of athletes.”
PCHS will open up the regular season against Greenville on December 10th. They will follow that up with road games against Penquis, Dexter, and PVHS. Eastern Maine Sports Media is schedule to broadcast the Pirates games on January 10th against Stearns, January 20th at Central, January 31st against Dexter, and February 3rd against Valley.
