The #3 North Dakota Bison rushed for 380 yards on Saturday afternoon, capturing their ninth Football Championship Subdivision Title in 11 years by throttling the Montana State Bobcats 38-10 at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.
Hunter Luepke rushed for three touchdowns in the first half of 8, 11, and 6 yards and Kobe Johnson also galloped 76 yards for a score as North Dakota State (14-1) took a 28-0 halftime lead and never looked back. The Bison ran for 270 yards in the opening 30 minutes alone. #9 Montana State (12-3) starting quarterback Tommy Mellott was injured on the first drive of the game and didn’t return. The Bobcats were making their first championship game appearance since 1984. Tucker Rovig filled in for Mellott and went 13-28 passing for 156 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Cam Miller passed for 126 yards (9-13) and a touchdown for NDSU, while the top rushers for the Bison included Johnson with four carries for 106 yards, Quincy Patterson with 11 for 98, and Loepke with 14 for 82 and the three scores.
North Dakota State Head Coach Matt Entz wins his second title in three seasons at the school, after he replaced four time title winner and current Kansas State coach Chris Klieman in 2019. Craig Bohl won the first three championships in school history before leaving to become head coach at Wyoming.
