The University of Maine men’s hockey team remained winless on the road this season, getting shutout for a second straight night in a 5-0 loss at Lawlor Rink against the Merrimack College Warriors in Hockey East action Saturday night.
After being thoroughly outplayed in a 4-0 loss to #19 Boston University on Friday night, it was more of the same on Saturday. Alex Jeffries on the powerplay at 5:31 of the first period was the only goal needed for Merrimack. Max Newton made it 2-0 even strength at 13:41. Ben Brar scored another powerplay marker for the Warriors at 7:18 of the second, and Steven Jandric scored twice in a span of 3:02 of the third period to cap off the scoring on the night. Maine now falls to 4-16-4, 2-12-2 in Hockey East and is also 0-9-1 away from home.
Victor Ostman made 39 saves in net in the loss for Maine. Jack Quinlivan and Lynden Breen both led the Bears with five shots on goal each. Hugo Ollas made 28 saves in goal in the Merrimack College victory. Newton had a goal and three assists, Jandric had two goals and an assist, while Jeffries also had three points with one goal and two assists. The Warriors improve to 14-11-1, 9-8-0 in conference play. Maine is at UMass next Friday and Saturday night for a two game series with the Minutemen.
