WATERVILLE, Maine — The North Atlantic Conference announced its 2021-22 women’s basketball all-conference team on Thursday and Husson University junior Bailey Donovan was selected as player of the year and first team, while senior Vanessa Duarte earned second team recognition, and senior Cassie Urso garnered sportsmanship team honors.
Donovan, a native of Island Falls, Maine, capped off one of the most dominate season in Husson history averaging 20.6 points — ranking 12th in the country in scoring — and 13.8 rebounds, which ranks sixth nationally. Additionally, Donovan leads the nation with a 65.11% field goal percentage and ranks second with 17 double-doubles. Donovan also ranks third in the NAC with 2.0 blocks per game and has been named NAC Player of the Week six times this season.
Duarte, a native of Hawthorne, New York, earned second team all-conference accolades after averaging 11.5 points per game, which ranks 13th in the NAC while averaging 3.8 assists — seventh overall in the conference — and 1.9 steals per game which also ranks inside the top 10 in the NAC.
The Enfield, Connecticut native, Urso appeared in 19 games as a senior averaging 5.8 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game and currently leads the conference with a 41.5% 3-point percentage.
The Eagles return to action on Friday when they battle University of Maine-Presque Isle on the road at Maine Maritime Academy in the NAC quarterfinals beginning at 7:30 p.m.
