BANGOR— Edoardo Fiore had 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead John Bapst to a 56-45 win over Foxcroft in a Class B boys basketball quarterfinal game played at the Cross Insurance Center on Friday night.
Fiore had 10 first quarter points, including a shot from 3/4 court to beat the buzzer and give the Crusaders a 17-11 lead at the end of the first eight minutes.
The Ponies scored the first four points of the second quarter to cut the deficit to two. Caden Crocker had five points in the quarter and John Bapst was held to four points as the Crusaders held a 21-20 halftime lead.
The Ponies took their first lead (26-25) of the game when Crocker hit a three pointer with 4:40 left in the third quarter. Adam Conner gave Foxcroft a 28-27 lead. The Crusaders scored the next nine points and the lead never got below five the rest of the way.
Jon Pangburn went 11-14 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to secure the win. Pangburn finished with 14 points, while Jordan Kimball had 11 (all in the second half). John Bapst (10-10) will play a semifinal game against #2 Orono on Wednesday night.
Filip Brkic had 20 points to lead the Ponies. Crocker added 10. Foxcroft ends the season with a 14-6 record. John Bapst out rebounded Foxcroft 22-16. The Crusaders shot 15-18 from the free throw line, the Ponies shot 5-8.
