BANGOR- Lilly Roy had a game high 30 points, 22 of those in the first half on Saturday night, leading the Wisdom Pioneers to a 63-34 Class D North girls quarterfinal win over the Katahdin Cougars at the Cross Insurance Center.
Wisdom jumped out to a 9-0 lead, with six of those points coming from Roy. The Pioneers led 13-6 after one quarter. Katahdin cut it to a two point deficit twice in the second, both times on baskets from Makayla Hartsgrove. An 8-0 run however, again sparked by six from Roy, made it 27-17 at the half.
Wisdom continued that run to 12-0 in the third quarter by scoring the first two buckets from Roy and Abbie Lerman. They never led by less than 12 the rest of the way, outscoring Katahdin by 10 in the final period and the 29 point margin was the largest lead.
Roy added six rebounds to her big night offensively. Abbie Lerman had 10 in the fourth quarter and finished with 15 points. Olivia Ouellette also contributed eight points and 12 rebounds. The #2 seed from Wisdom (16-1) advances to a 2:05 p.m. semifinal against Machias on Thursday. Makayla Hartsgrove led Katahdin in the loss with 13 points, while her sister Hunter Hartsgrove added 10 points and four rebounds. Shelby Libby also chipped in seven points and 10 rebounds. The Cougars end their season at 9-10.
