Dexter uses strong defensive effort in girls basketball quarterfinal win over Calais

BANGOR —  Jozlynn Paige had 11 steals to lead a strong defensive attack in a 37-24 Dexter win over Calais in a Class C girls quaterfinal basketball game played Tuesday morning at the Cross Insurance Center.

Dexter scored the first four points of the game. Calais scored the next five to take their only lead, early in the second quarter. Paige would give the Tigers a lead (6-5) they wouldn’t give back. Abi Corson made a three pointer to make it 9-5. Cally Gudroe put in a basket to beat the halftime buzzer to give Dexter an 18-13 lead.

Dexter outscored Calais 10-7 in the third quarter to take a 28-20 advantage after three quarters.  Hannah Dean had all 10 of her points in the second half as the Tigers rolled to the 13 point win.

Sage Phillips had eight points, four rebounds, four steals, and two assists to lead the Blue Devils. Calais finishes the season with a recorded of 15-4.

Dean had five rebounds to go along with her game high point total of 10. Corson added eight points. Paige chipped in with seven points and eight rebounds. Elizabeth Kinney had five points and six rebounds for the Tigers. Dexter (12-6) will play in a semifinal game on Friday afternoon.
