BANGOR- Sophomore guard Patrick Dagan hit 6 three-pointers, and the George Stevens Eagles outscored the PVHS Howlers 26-3 in the second half on Wednesday, securing a spot in a Friday semifinal with a 44-18 Class C boys quarterfinal victory at the Cross Insurance Center.
#10 seed PVHS had an early 6-2 lead, but a 10-0 GSA run sparked by a pair of three-pointers by Dagan put the Eagles up for good at the end of the first eight minutes 12-6. The Howlers got five second quarter points from Gabe Castonguay to stay within 18-15 at the halftime break. Two more from behind the arc by Dagan to start the third fueled another 10-0 run by George Stevens to make it 28-15, and the lead never got below 11 the rest of the way. PVHS didn’t get on the board until there was just 2:25 left in that third period. The advantage eventually went to as many as 26 late for the 16-2 Eagles which was the biggest lead. GSA will meet #11 Central in the semis on Friday.
