BANGOR- Pierce Walston recorded 24 points, five rebounds, and four assists to lead Orono to a 56-39 comeback win over John Bapst in a Class B semifinal game played Wednesday night.
Eduordo Fiore and the Crusaders started quick. Fiore had nine first quarter points to propel his team to a 17-7 lead. Fiore had a double-double in the first half with 12 points and 10 rebounds as John Bapst held a 26-19 halftime advantage.
Ben Francis (7) and Walston (5) combined for 12 points in the third quarter. The Red Riots started the half on a 12-2 run and took their first lead on a Francis basket with 2:57 remaining. Orono would hold the lead the rest of the way, outscoring the Crusaders 37-13 in the second half.
Fiore led the Crusaders with 14 points, 13 rebounds, and two assists. Corey Butler added 11 points. John Bapst finishes the season with a record of 10-11.
Francis recorded 16 points, three steals, and two assists for the Red Riots. Orono (18-3) will play in the regional championship game this Saturday at 3:35 PM against top seed Ellsworth.
