The Boston Bruins honored Tuuka Rask before their game with the New Jersey Devils at TD Garden on Thursday night with a ceremonial puck drop. Boston then sent the fans home happy with some goal scoring, punching in six second period goals in an 8-1 blowout win.
Boston got out quickly to a 1-0 lead when Matt Grzelcyk scored 57 seconds into the first period. New Jersey (24-38-5) had the answer when Jack Hughes evened it up with his 30th goal of the season at 11:02. Jake Debusk got the game winner 5:07 later, and then in the second period the Bruins exploded. The hosts scored six games in a span of 13:50 on markers by Erik Haula, Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron, Marchand with his second, and also goals by Marc McLaughlin and Taylor Hall that would finish the scoring on the night. McLaughlin, the former Boston College Eagle who just finished his college career back on March 12, was making his NHL debut.
Linus Ullmark got the win in net with 25 saves. Bergeron (1 goal, 2 assists) and David Pastrnak (3 assists) led the way with three points each. Grzelcyk (1G, 1A), Debrusk (1G, 1A), and Marchand (2G) all had two points a piece. Boston (42-20-5) bounced back after a disappointing 6-4 home loss to Toronto on Tuesday night. The Bruins will host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night.
