Dexter 2022 tennis preview
Girls
The Dexter girls tennis team will look to Cally Gudroe, Annika King, Elisa Picarello, and Maureen O’Roak to have larger roles for this years squad.
The Tigers will look to replace several key players from last years team that finished 4-8.
“We graduated several key players last year,”Dexter coach Peter Murray said. “That will open the door for some new players to move into the playing positions.”
Gudroe and King teamed together as a doubles team last season and both will elevate to singles this season. Picarello and O’Roak also played doubles together last season and will be moved up the ladder this year.
McKenzie Trafton, Sidney Fogler, and Graci Scott, all saw action last season in a reserve role. They will all be expected to move into playing positions this season.
“We will be somewhat inexperienced in some positions and that will be a weakness,”Murray said. “A strength will be our numbers, with a total of 14 players, and the depth of the team. I expect us to be competitive with all teams and be in position to battle for a play-off position.”
Boys
Trevor Speed and Brady Reynolds are the only returning players for the Tigers boys team.
“With seven new players joining the team this year it will take some time to sift out who will be playing in what position.” Murray said.
New players this season include Aiden Langlais, Jay Bowden, Cole Doherty, Shane Craig, Cole Tibbetts, and Skyler Tasker.
Murray said, “our inexperience will be a weakness, but we expect a a quick turnaround.
Dexter is scheduled to open their season on April 23rd at Schenck/Stearns. The home opener is scheduled for April 25th against PCHS.
