The Maine Central Institute (MCI) Huskies baseball team will have a veteran returning group as they will compete in a different class in 2022.
“Expectations are difficult to predict considering reclassification has us in Class C North this year, but we will still be primarily playing a Class B schedule,”MCI coach Eric Day said. “We hope that a tough B schedule will have us better prepared for when the playoffs arrive.”
The Huskies will look to replace their 2021 ace with a pair of senior leaders. Day will hope to put a lineup out that put pressure on the opposing defense.
”We have a solid group of returning players that contributed for us last year. Despite losing our front of the rotation pitcher we are looking for our senior leaders Logon Cote and Nathan McKenney to take the next step forward and keep us competitive in most games,”Day said. “Junior Max Bottenfield will also see some time on the mound, and will hopefully take a closer type role for us. While we won’t have a lot of extra-base hitters, we should have a lineup that will put the ball in play, and make opposing teams earn outs.”
The Huskies are scheduled to open the regular season when they host Maranacook on April 21st.
