The Husson softball team began North Atlantic Conference play on Saturday afternoon in dominating fashion on Senior Day. The Eagles shutout Northern Vermont-Lyndon 8-0 by mercy rule in five innings in both games of a doubleheader at O’Keefe Field in Bangor.
The pitching was part of the story, as Husson held the visiting Hornets to just four on the day. The combination of McKenna Smith and Tatyanna Biamby in game one only gave up one hit and struck out 13 batters collectively. Smith (8-2) got the win. Meagan Gosselin led the way offensively with three hits and three RBI. Jen Jones and Jill Bisson pitched in the second game, with Jones (1-0) going the first 4.0 innings to get the victory. Katie Windsor and Kenzie Dore had two RBI each that led to the sweep. Northern Vermont-Lyndon falls to 5-9, 0-2 in the NAC.
The Eagles improve to 12-6, 2-0 in conference and are scheduled to host Northern Vermont-Johnson on Sunday for a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
