Izzy Wilson hit a tiebreaking and game winning solo homerun in the top of the ninth inning on Wednesday night, his first homer of the season, as the Portland Sea Dogs beat the Somerset Patriots 2-1 at TD Bank BallPark in Bridgewater Township, New Jersey in Double A Eastern League baseball action.
Tyler Deardon drove in the other Portland run with an RBI single in the second inning. Somerset (NY Yankees) had tied it on an RBI single from Anthony Volpe in the third. Wilson had two hits on the night. Brandon Walter pitched the first 6.0 innings on the mound for the Sea Dogs allowing just one run on four hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. The lefthander has a 1.17 earned run average so far and hasn’t allowed a walk in 23.0 innings of work. Jacob Wallace (1-0) earned the win in relief, with Andrew Politi picking up his second save.
Portland and Somerset have split the first two games of this six game series and are both 10-7 on the season and at the top of the Northeast Division standings, one game better than the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Toronto Blue Jays). The series continues on Thursday at 6:35 p.m. with RHP Victor Santos taking to the hill for the Sea Dogs.
